GLOSSARY/Infrastructure

Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT)

The property of a system that is able to reach consensus even if some of its components are failing or acting maliciously.

Enterprise blockchain networks must be resilient to arbitrary (Byzantine) failures. BFT-based consensus mechanisms ensure that as long as more than two-thirds of the network behaves correctly, the system maintains integrity. This is critical for industrial consortiums where participants may have competing interests.
